Kingsway/Royal Alex LRT station wins design award

The City of Edmonton is proud to announce that the unique design of the Kingsway/Royal Alex LRT station was recognized with a Prairie Wood Design Award March 8. The award was presented in the Institutional Wood Design category to Stantec Architecture Ltd. for the creative use of wood as a main structural feature in the station.

Wood was used in the Kingsway/Royal Alex station to complement the steel, glass, and concrete construction while also promoting sustainable architecture. The overarching theme of the Stantec design is the experience of movement through the dynamic roof structures, glazing, and material patterns.

The award was presented by WoodWORKS! a national campaign to increase the use of wood in commercial, industrial and institutional construction.
